‘Flaws’ is the second single to be released from the Ballarat 6-piece’s debut album, In Hindsight, which is due out July 6. And just in case you’re incredibly slow to the game – HUNTING GROUNDS are the same baby faced teens that took out the Triple J Unearthed High competition back in 2009, as Howl, were then forced to change their name as they were often confused an American sludge metal band of the same name and have destroyed many a local venue in that time.
Since coming to fruition as a seriously intense garage act, the band have really re-focussed their overall sound – and this can be seen in ‘Flaws’. Instead of the frantic guitars, organs and screams, the new track is a hell of a lot melancholic with some serious shoegaze influence sprinkled throughout it. Belsar’s vocals are swirling in reverb and a lot darker than previous tracks, yet overall it keeps the customary intense nature and attitudes of the band in tact.
Once again, the guys enlisted the help of good friends/amazing minds in Vegadeetz Films (who also made the clip for previous single, ‘In Colour’) to produce and direct the clip. And in true HUNTING GROUNDS style the band have crafted a incredibly cryptic and beautifully captivating film clip for ‘Flaws’. You can check it out below.
It’s an awesome change of pace for the band and one that surprise many fans that have been around from the start. For us, it’s a massive track and makes us incredibly excited for the debut album. These dudes are truly one of the most intriguing and special acts to come out from Australia and are definitely the best Melbourne act going around.
